Student Volunteers

Student volunteers are an integral part of the success of each CHI conference. Students from all disciplines are invited to be part of the most exciting event in the Human-Computer Interaction field.

At the conference a wide variety of positions are available, ranging from audio-visual support to registration assistance. Many of the duties are not glamorous, but all positions provide opportunities to interact with CHI 97 contributors, attendees, and committee members from all parts of the world and many diverse areas of the HCI community.

Benefits

In return for their help with the conference, student volunteers receive many benefits. All student volunteers receive free registration for the conference, some free meals, an invitation to the conference reception, a free T-shirt and an invitation to the thank-you party for all volunteers of the conference.

Student volunteers also receive access to housing at reasonable rates. Rooms are shared with one other student volunteer of the same gender; single rooms are available at additional cost.

All volunteers are responsible for their travel to and from Atlanta and for meals not provided by the conference.

Qualifications

Volunteers must be undergraduate, master's, or doctoral students during the 1996-7 academic year. All students, regardless of discipline, are encouraged to apply. No experience is required. We are looking for enthusiastic, intelligent, reliable people.

Volunteers must commit to a total of 20 hours at the conference between March 21-27.

How to Apply

Electronic submissions are preferred. One can use the online submission form, or a form can be obtained from chi97-students@acm.org. However, you may also use the text version of the form, and mail or fax it to the Send To address.

A valid, dated, student identification card, or a letter from your university/school must be presented when you register at the conference. Applications must be received no later than the deadline given above. However, since all Student Volunteer positions are often filled several months before the actual deadline, early application is advised.
